The documental collections of the Archives

The main collections of documents which comprise the basis of the Archives are as follows:

General Marcellin Champagnat Collection which constitutes the solid base of the archives since the beginning of their formation. The sections and sub-sections have been changed as studies have required.

General history of the Institute Collection, with all the attempts and realizations carried through to completion from Br. Avit (Henri Bilon) down to our own days. Without making many conclusions about the same, we preserve the sources and origins, the compositions available through the works of the brothers and the works of research, (Marist Notebooks ...)

General Administration Collection, the works depending on the Administration and the legislation produced in the course of the almost two hundred years of history.
The main sections are:
- The Circulars of the Superior Generals, the personal writings of each of them and their Councillors.
-The General Chapters and the General Conferences.
-The decisions of the General Councils.
The publications in the Bulletin of the Institute and other reviews of the Administration constitute a great collection rich in data and doctrine, hardly explored or studied.

External relations Collection.Archivo From almost the beginning of the life of the Institute the practice has been maintained of preserving the administrative documents. It is easy to understand that this provides a source for comparing data and historical statements.

Personal documentation Collection. Comprises not only the biographies of the brothers but their personal records (37.000), to which can be added the hundreds of biographies of brothers deposited in the library adjunct of the Archives.

 Provinces of the Institute Collection
In three successive arrangements, the Archives holds the collections constituting the richest and most extensive and most consulted and researched; they are the documents produced by the Administrative Units in their successive divisions, structuring and restructuring. The fourteen sub-section divisions indicate the wealth of the variety of documents they contain.

The Goods and Finances Collection is one of the most abundant and least consulted collections of documents, but it preserves the silent history of the numbers and works of the Institute.

The graphic document Collection relating to the provinces, works and persons, is each year the object of greater consultation and research of the reality and the evolution of the works of the Institute. This collection constitutes the fundamental base of the Archive’s photographic library.
