Bicentenary - Initiatives

Over the weekend from Friday 2 to Monday 5 June the Champagnat Marists in Fiji celebrated the bicentenary in Suva. On the Friday afternoon, a formal welcome ceremony was held in the grounds of the Marist Brothers High School. This provided an opportunity for the Brothers to ask forgiveness for any wrong doing.

Saturday commenced with a march from the Marist Brothers Primary School, Suva Street to the High School. The march, which was led by the Police Band, consisted of over 1000 current and past students. This was followed by Mass celebrated by the Archbishop of Suva, Peter Loy Chong. After Mass the rest of the day was given over to cultural performances by each of the schools, lunch and musical entertainment.

The Old Boys association hosted Mass at the High School on Sunday and on Monday the new Old Boys association administration building was officially opened.

The Brothers first arrived in Fiji in 1848 and opened the first school in 1888.
