General administration to receive new Secretariat of Mission

The General Council has appointed Brother Carlos Alberto Rojas Carvajal, of the Norandina Province, and Brother Mark Omede, of the Province of Nigeria, as new directors of the Secretariat of Mission starting Jan. 1 for a period of three years.

Br Carlos Alberto will be the new director substituting Brother João Carlos do Prado, while Br Mark will be the new assistant director, substituting Brother Miguel Ángel Espinosa Barrera.   

The appointments were made known in a letter of Superior General Brother Emili Turú published July 17, to Brothers Provincial, superiors of districts and their councils. 

“My sincere gratitude to Brothers João Carlos do Prado and Miguel Angel Espinosa whose terms as Director and Assistant Director are ending,” he wrote. “Their excellent service has given a huge impulse in the whole area of the mission, and most especially through their strong involvement in the project we have called New Models.

 

Br Mark Omede

Brother Mark Omede, aged 43, is currently provincial councillor of the Nigeria province and director of the Polytechnic center in the town of Emene.

Br Mark just finished the Horizons programme in Manziana and is currently participating in the International Marist Youth Encounter from July 16 – 23 in Lyon, France. 

He began his postulancy in 1995 at Orlu, Nigeria. Br Mark began his novitiate formation at Sabin- Akrofrom, Kumasi, Ghana in 1996, made his first profession in 1998 and his scholastic formation in Nairobi until 2002.

Br Mark worked as the Director of catechetic for the Catholic diocese of Idah, teacher and deputy dean of student affairs at the Marist Brothers Juniorate in Uturu, vice principal of the Marist Comprehensive College Ezzagu and then principal of the same school until 2015. He has been the interim registrar of the proposed Marist Polytechnic from 2015 until now.

He graduated at MIC Nairobi and holds an M.ed and Ph.D in educational administration and planning from Abia State University Uturu. 

He has also served his province as chairman of the Marist schools management board, of the Marist schools examination committee, of the Marist service commission and of the Religious and Moral Education Committee. He has also served on the commission for the preparation of the second Marist International Mission Assembly. 

 

Br Carlos Alberto Rojas Carvajal

Br Carlos Alberto, aged 43 and known among the Brothers as ‘Beto,’ studied at the Colegio Champagnat school in Bogota, Colombia. 

He began his postulancy in 1989 in the city of Popayán and did his novitiate in Medellín. He made his first profession in 1991 and his perpetual profession in 1997.

Beto has a degree in religious sciences of the Pontifical University of Salamanca in Spain and in Social Sciences of the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. He also holds a Masters in Disciplinary Studies on Development (Estudios Disciplinarios sobre Desarrollo) at the University of Los Andes in Colombia.

He has worked as educator in the Champagnat de Ipiales and Pasto schools, as vice rector of the schools Ipiales, Pasto and Villavicencio, provincial coordinator of youth ministry, secretary of solidarity of the province and as the provincial’s delegate in Colombia.

He was a member of the New Models of Animation, Government and Management team for the past two years and is currently Provincial Councillor and econome of the Colombia sector of the Province.
