Date of Death: 23 November 2015.
Place of Death: Marist Brothers Community, Ashgrove, Queensland, Australia.

Time of Death:
Denis felt unwell two days before he died. He was taken to hospital and admitted. It appears he had some internal bleeding and was given a blood transfusion. His condition deteriorated on the next evening and he was rushed to into surgery about 3 am, but died during the operation.
Seven years ago, Denis suffered a serious heart attack and was on life support for some days. He was not expected to survive, and although he did, he sustained serious, permanent and irreparable damage to his heart. He was fully aware that his heart would fail at some not-too-distant point.

Community and Ministry Appointments:
Denis was born in 1943 and apart from 7 years at Ayr (QLD), spent all of his active ministry in Sydney and Brisbane.

His Secondary Teaching Ministry (and later Counselling Ministry) and Community placements began in 1969 at Marist College North Sydney NSW and continued through St Patrick’s High School Dundas NSW, St Joseph’s College Hunters Hill NSW, Kogarah Marist High NSW, Parramatta Marist High NSW, Burdekin Catholic High School in Ayr QLD, Marist College Rosalie QLD, Marist Brothers Enoggera QLD and finally, retirement at Ashgrove QLD.

Denis, whose life centred around education, was more than just a teacher or man in the classroom. He was a talented musician and had an excellent singing voice. He was also at home in the water being quite a classy swimmer. His goal was to help students to discover their particular personal gifts and to develop them. Not surprising that he was quite a success with choirs and identifying young soloists. His other passion was coaching the swimming team. Out of sight he put many hours into maintenance of the swimming gear and the pool itself. Always behind-the-scenes, he loved to see the boys succeeding and have their time on the podium. In his latter days he gained qualifications in Pastoral Counselling and worked with troubled students as they tried to face their demons, to get their self-belief and their lives back on track. In similar fashion in the Brothers community, he was quietly beavering away as community bursar keeping the finances in order and maintaining community supplies. He was very much a man for others. May he rest in peace.
