GENERAL CONFERENCE
CIRCULAR 8.11.97

CANONISATION
1999-02-24

Methodology
Methodology
Methodology
1.       See: 1.       See: 1.         See:

How things are now and the challenge coming from the world, the Church and the Institute.

Where are we as an Institute?

the gift of the canonization of Marcellin Champagnat today.
2.   Judge: 2.   Judge: 2.   Judge:

Our convictions and calls for evangelisation.

Refounding  the Institute

= redirecting the Institute effectively in line with the intuitions and intentions that the Founder had at the beginning of the Congregation.

A gift for the universal Church, for the Institute and for society.

A call for the Church to refound the Institute

With daring and hope.

3.        Set in motion: 3.        Set in motion: 3.        Set in motion:

Our commitments:

  •  Mission
  • Solidarity
  • Relations with seculars
  • Marist Apostolic Spiri-tuality
  • Formation
  • Animation- Government

by unifying all our priorities

  • Deepen our Marist spirituality
Marian and apostolic dimension, our vocation as Brother and apostle of youth, unifying life, in the intercultural world of today.
  • Develop the proposal of mission and solidarity
change of stuctures, new presences, preference for the poorest and most neglected)
  • Sharing the Marist mission with seculars
sharing our spirituality and responsibilities, complementing vocations in the Church, applying the education project)
  • Ministries of vocation and formation
urgency, meaningful presence among young people, personal and community witness reflected in the works, inviting and planning the collaboration of lay people, the local Church and other Provinces)

with refounding seen as fidelity to Marcellin's project in a new historical context which is embodied in a diversity of cultures.

  • Clear commitments that show we are going ahead in the line of our four priorities
  • Serious practice of solidarity seen as an integral part of our charisma
  • Presenting Marcellin:

    -          as a young man who answers the call of God generously and decisively;

    -          as an educator who is a model  in his love for and dedication to children and young folk;

    -          as a priest who devotes himself to his parish work and to catechesis (like his seminary companions, the Curé of Ars and Julien Eymard)

    -          as a religious (Marist Father) who knew how to harmonise being in tune with God and sensitive to the needs of the people, giving creative answers based on the Gospel.

    -          who knew how to follow Christ in the manner of Mary at Nazareth; as a Founder of a religious Institute. It means something to be a Marist today and is well worthwhile; we are the heirs of his spirit.
