Areas
The current General Council has established six commissions to foster the dynamism of the brothers and lay Marists. Each Commission has an international makeup. Learn more about each one and take the pulse of the Congregation.
Mission
The mission of the Marist Congregation is to educate youth – in schools as well as in informal educational settings – with special preference for the poor. Here you will find the courses of action that this Commission plans to take as well as more information about these and other aspects of our mission.
Vocation ministry
Many young men throughout the world are interested in learning more about our Marist life and feel that God is calling them to join our Marist Congregation. The commission for vocation ministry encourages and supports each Administrative Unit in its work in this vital area. Here is the commission’s plan and a list of brothers you can contact.
Evangelical use of goods
The Congregation makes use of an array of material goods, and is vitally concerned about using them for its mission and the cause of solidarity in accordance with the gospel. The commission for the evangelical use of goods is establishing an action plan in this particular area and developing criteria for our close adherence to gospel norms.

Laity
Today, increasingly, men and woman blessed with the charism and values of St. Marcellin are sharing in the spirituality and mission of the Marist brothers. Click here for a look at the plans and work of this commission. This is where you’ll also find information about the fraternities of the Champagnat Movement of the Marist Family.
Religious life
Saint Marcellin founded the Institute of the Marist Brothers, which today numbers more than 4,000 men. Living as religious brothers in community, they focus on Mary’s life for inspiration and ways to follow Christ. The Commission for Religious Life promotes initiatives that strengthen this commitment, as seen in the plan that we have set out here.
Government
The Marist brothers live in small communities that are grouped together into administrative units called Provinces and Districts. The General Council, headquartered in Rome, facilitates the brothers’ being in communion worldwide. Its government commission works to foster the viability and vitality of the restructuring process currently underway, which is creating a whole new map of the Marist world.
