The Bureau is involved with international organizations in advocating for the human rights of children, especially their right to education.

In order to increase its effectiveness in these areas, the Congregation has authorized BIS to enter into a three-year partnership with Franciscans International (FI), an NGO of the Franciscan Family, with accreditation before the UN through the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).

In July of 2005, the Congregation named a brother to serve as BIS Advocacy Officer for the Rights of Children before the UN’s human rights agencies in Geneva. A member of the BIS staff, he spends much time there, working closely with Franciscans International in this field.
