In an effort to advance the mission of the brothers before the international community and influence decisions for justice, the Marist Brothers' Congregation, through its Bureau of International Solidarity maintains an active presence within the following international agencies:

• Africa-Europe Faith and Justice Network
• JPIC International Commission and Promoters Network

The Africa-Europe Faith and Justice Network is an international network of 42 Catholic religious and missionary Institutes working in Africa and Europe. The AEFJN works to influence decisions before the European Union with respect to issues of social and economic development in Africa. BIS activily supports campaigns of the AEFJN.

Justice, Peace, Integrity of Creation (JPIC) is an International Commission of the Union of Superiors GeneraL (USG) and the International Union of Superiors General (IUSG).

Working closely with the commission is the JPIC-PROMOTERS NETWORK, a voluntary network of Justice and Peace coordinators of religious men and women’s congregations with headquarters in Rome. The network meets monthly to share information and works to advocate for just issues. The network has established several “working groups” around issues of justice and peace.

BIS is an active member of the JPIC-Promoters Network and has participated in several working groups over the past few years. Recent activities with the network include:

• Ecology Work Group (2003):
  This group works to advocate for ecological issues. It has produced several publications on global warming and fresh water. It’s most recent publication, Water for Life! In Defence of our Sister Water can be found at http://www.ofm-jpic.org/agua.

• Right of the Child (Current):
  In 2004 BIS took the lead in initiating a new working group of the JPIC-Promoters based on the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. The group works to advocate for justice issues affecting children and youth.
