What
is RSS (Really Simple Syndication) |
| |
In
a world with trillions of sites, wouldn’t it be
good to be always updated without having to click, site
after site, seeking the latest?
This is possible with RSS, which shows you, without
having to navigate, the latest information on the sites
that interest you.
There is a lot of discussion about
the meaning of the abbreviation, but most agree that
it is translated as "Really Simple Syndication."
Not all sites offer this service yet,
but its popularity is constantly growing and we also,
the Marist Institute, want to offer you this instrument.

How
do I use RSS? |
| |
In general, the first thing that
you need is a programme called news reader.
Different versions exist; some are accessed using a
browser, others are independent programmes that you
install on your computer. All versions allow you to
see the additions to the sites that you have chosen. |
| |
|
| |
When you have chosen your news reader,
all that you have to do is decide the content you want.
For instance, if you want the latest news of www.champagnat.org
all you need to do is copy the following address in
your reader: http://www.champagnat.org/rss/en.xml
Some navigators (browsers), including
Firefox, Opera and Safari, have functions that automatically
seek RSS for you. For more details on that, see their
site.

For
Marist sites (for webmasters) |
| |
Besides personal use,
RSS can also be used to publish the news
of our Institute in other sites. Therefore,
if you are an administrator of a Marist
site, feel free to use our content.
The more expert webmasters,
knowing the address of the xml file (www.champagnat.org/rss/en.xml),
will have no difficulty in implementing
in their pages a section with the titles
of the latest updates of our site.
Others can find, as in
the section below, a java script that can
help them. Just copy the script, choose
the place where you want the news to appear,
and paste inside html codes. When the page
goes On-line, the contents will be visible. The code below will create a windows like the one here at your right. If there is some error it depends on RSSinclude, the site that provide this code. We recomend you to create your own account. In that way you can manage it by yourself.
