Michael Charles Green

Michael Green earlier this year completed a seven-year term as National Director of Marist Schools Australia and Executive Director of Ministries for the Province of Australia, and is now helping to establish a new residential programme for young Marists at university. He is part of a community of three Brothers living with these young adults.

In 2017, he is also involved in a range of other commitments for his own Province and other Provinces, and with two Catholic universities in Australia.  Michael has been a teacher, school principal, Province administrator, author, and course presenter.

His studies have been in the disciplines of history, theology, scripture, and education.  His doctorate, which explored the charismic culture of Australian Marist schools, brought together the anthropological concept of culture and the theological dynamic of charism.

For the Institute, Michael has served on a number of commissions, among them the Patrimony Commission and the ‘New Models’ Commission.  As well as his scholarship in Marist history and spirituality, Michael has a particular interest in the ways in which the spiritual families of the Church can contribute to its vitality and renewal.

This Chapter, I hope, will be creative, bold, and prophetic in its openness for how all Marists can be a charismatic family of the Church in a new and Marian way, one that nurtures the Baptismal vocation of all its members, with a particular clarity concerning the role of the Brothers within it.
