Vincent Abadom

I was born in Onitsha in Anambra State of Nigeria in June 7th 1973. My secondary education in Marist Brothers’ Juniorate Uturu brought me closer to the Marist Brothers and this really influenced my life greatly that at the end of secondary education in 1995, I strongly felt called by God to live the dreams of St. Marcellin Champagnat. This desire took me to the postulancy formation and later to the novitiate. In June 13th 1998, I made my first vows.

In order to get me fully prepared for my future apostolate, in the same year, my superiors sent me to Nairobi, Kenya for my scholasticate formation and academic career at the Marist Formation Centre and Marist International college affiliated to Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) and Ubaniana Pontifical University Rome.

On returning to Nigeria in 2002, I was posted to my Alma-mater: Marist Brothers’ Juniorate, Uturu as the Spiritual Director and the Aspirants Master. After a year, I worked as the school Deputy Director and in 2004, I was appointed the Director of the School. In the same 2004, my superiors gave me the opportunity to make my perpetual commitment to God.

In 2009, my province felt the need to prepare a brother to work as a formator, consequently, I was sent to the Pontifical Gregorian University in Roma where I studied psychology while residing at the General House. At the end of my studies in 2013, I was sent to the novitiate in Ghana until my new appointment as the provincial. In 2015, I was appointed member of the International Commission for Brothers Today.

I must admit that to be a provincial superior is not an easy thing but I am fully aware that when God gives a task, He accompanies it with an appropriate grace to do it. I wish to use my little knowledge to serve my brothers and to inspire them to embrace the “new beginning” with audacity.

The Chapter will renew and deepen our lives as Marists of Champagnat and usher us into the third centenary of the institute with lots of zeal and conviction.
