John Hazelman

Talofa lava! I am Brother John Hazelman, a 48 year old from the District of the Pacific. I was born in Samoa (Western) of a Fijian father and a Samoan mother. Unfortunately, my dad passed away 7 months before I was born. I have 3 sisters and 6 brothers. I lived close to Apia the capital of Samoa. I attended a convent school in primary before joining the Marist Brothers Primary and Secondary schools.

I had my novitiate at the Inter-Pacific Novitiate at Lomary, Fiji. I was professed in November 1992. I joined the Scholasticate community at Suva, Fiji before continuing to the Marist Asia Pacific Center (MAPAC) in Manila, Philippines. I undertook formation training and graduate studies in Chicago, India and the Philippines. My past ministries included teaching in both primary and secondary schools, formation in the pre-novitiate and post-novitiate levels, youth ministries and Lay partnership. I had my perpetual profession in January 2001.

At present, I am the community leader of the Marist Asia Pacific Center. My hobbies are gardening, fishing, listening to music, interacting with people and walking. I am looking forward to the General Chapter … to continue the dreaming process with other Brothers in discerning our present and future calls.

I am hoping that this chapter will give some clear direction on non school apostolates and a combine Champagnat Marist formation ... Brothers and Marist Laity.
